grit story | marcia gaines

Marcia was my science teacher and soccer coach, but before all that I knew her as a friend. Bird hunter, fisher, pottery lover, home DIYer (before it was cool!), & now artist of Leaves & Feathers, you won’t find Marcia concerning herself with the tune of others. She’ll be marching, no– dancing, to her own wildly creative & inspired drum.  She has a tough love doused in humor sort of personality. But dang it, if you need support, this is the woman to call. I’ve been so inspired by her artistic flare, her passion for science, & her distinct & contagious chuckle.  This is the woman who also got me out of the country for the first time, to study...

grit story | mary meier

World wanderer, friend to all, bird watcher. To know Mary is to love her. My very first true “collection” as we know them now, my very first storied batch, was inspired by this woman. Inspired & kick started! Mary hand picked each of those lovely & weathered pieces of Alaskan sea glass for the Oasis collection. Living in Alaska, with a vault toilet as her primary commode, this woman is well versed in grit. Working as a nurse for many years, both enduring & witnessing hardship first hand, nothing has hardened her. Instead she softens into connection, kindness & great, great appreciation for the little things in life. Her zest for adventure, her unending enthusiasm, & her enchantment with all...

grit story | tara kuipers

A woman who simply radiates. I chase the goal of matching her adventure & compassion. She is strong, constantly exploring, but also full of grace for herself & everyone around her. There is always laughter when you’re around Tara. She is full of it. She explodes with it. And… she is really good at making sure you get a fix too. Hiking in the himalayas, scuba diving in Mexico, biking across the gravel roads of Cody, or xc skiing to break up a work commute over the mountains, she is constantly exploring outdoors. But even when she’s not, she has the best book recommendations & conversations for exploring our intellect, our courage, & our impact. A woman in service to...

grit story | nancy joyce

As one of my parent’s longtime friends, I have known Nancy for as long as I’ve known my own family. She has always been a part of my life but was especially a part of my youth, shaping my own personal grit with her influence. Nancy is a sheep rancher, a farm wife, a gardener & a bug enthusiast & now a vivacious grandma. Her fantastic smile & easy going nature has always been a balm. Her calm under stress, an inspiration. Raising two mischievous boys, she rolled with the chaos with a laugh & a shrug. As perfect as this photo is, when I think of Nancy, I picture garden gloves & tools with dirt on her pants or...

Women Centric Books

Constantly reading or listening to books I go down a lot of rabbit holes & try a lot of new genres or topics. Many of the stories or points shared that stick with me beyond cover to cover are those about powerful women. Fascinated by some of the women like Amelia Airhardt, Sacajawea, Jane Goodall & Rosa Parks whose names we did hear in our school years, it has been those whose names & impact were unknown to me which I have thoroughly enjoyed learning more on as an adult.  Here are just a small sample of some of the women centric books I have read & fond myself pondering on. Please, if you end up reading them or...
